Nothing can complete a southern meal better than a warm serving of cornbread and even better if you can make it from scratch yourself. In order to make corn bread from scratch you will need the following ingredients:

1 cup of all-purpose flour
1 quarter cup of sugar
4 teaspoons of baking powder
3 quarter teaspoons of salt
1 cup of yellow cornmeal
2 medium sized eggs
1 cup of skim milk (regular milk can also be used)
1 quarter cup of soft shortening

To make this delicious homemade treat follow the following directions.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is preheating combine the following ingredients in a large bowl: flour, baking powder, sugar, corn meal and salt. After all the dry ingredients have been placed into the bowl add the milk, eggs and shortening. When all the ingredients have been placed into the bowl you will want to beat them with a hand mixer. If you don’t have a hand mixer a whisk will do. Beat the ingredients until smooth; this should take around 1 minute. Make sure not to over beat the mixture. Pour the batter into a greased 9 by 9 pan and place in the preheated oven. Bake the mixture for 20 to 25 minutes. Take out to cool and then enjoy.
